The Mermaid's Mirror

The Mermaid's Mirror
L.K. Madigan

Fifteen year old Lena can't remember a time when she hasn't been obsessed with the sea. She spends most of her time at the beach and has papered her walls with pictures of the waves. She desperately wants to learn to surf, but her father refuses to allow her, having suffered a nearly deadly surfing accident years before.
During one of her early morning walks by the ocean, Lena sees what she believes to be a mermaid. Determined to see her again, Lena spends more and more of her time learning everything she can about the mermaid she has seen. This decision forces her to confront her past and decide upon a course for her future.
The story was great, and really imaginative-it was really hard to put down. I did find the transition from the real to the fantasy a bit jarring-it almost read like two separate books. Both parts were compelling, and I would have loved to have read more.
Good love stories, terrific relationship with her family and little brother Cole, and a fascinating story. I'd definitely recommend!
